Earlier this month, I shared the photo we took to make our baby #2 announcement and I mentioned a video…well, I finally put it together and am excited to share it! We just had to take the opportunity to surprise everyone in a unique way….because let’s face it, that’s just what we do.
We bought Trent a “Big Brother” t-shirt and brought it along with us to the party, but kept it hidden in the diaper bag. Once we sang Happy Birthday and opened gifts, we thought it was time to break the news…except right before I went to grab him, he fell down and and started to cry. Add this to the fact that he has been Mr. Super Shy Guy for months now, and we had a feeling our announcement wasn’t going to play out like we imagined. But we gave it a try anyway.
I brought Trent into the bathroom, changed his shirt and then tried to get him to walk around and see everyone…we wanted to see how long it would take people to notice! Well, he didn’t want to walk around, but I was finally able to get him past one room. Our niece, Levonna, noticed immediately, but she knew to keep quiet until others noticed (thank you Levonna!). After he made his way past the living room, my goal was to get his Nana to see his shirt.
But she was too busy telling a story to someone, so even though I said NANA! 10 times, it wasn’t until I poked her that she turned around and looked. By that time, half the people there had noticed and had to tell her to look at the shirt. This was proving to be quite the task.
Once she did notice it, she let out a deafening scream - but Papa was not so quick to catch on. She had to tell him to look at the shirt and he said “Big Brother - yeah, so what?” He apparently thought the shirt was referring to the tv show Big Brother. Nana had to scream “He’s going to be a big brother!” which then prompted Papa to grab him and hug him, which resulted in Trent getting scared and crying.
It may not have gone as planned, but things rarely ever do, and it will definitely be a fun story to share in the future!

Congrats, Lynn! Your video popped up in my YouTube suggestions. Erik and I are expecting our second as well. She’s due March 4. I’m 37 weeks today and feel as though I could deliver at any time. Griffin and Lila will be 18 months apart.
I wish you the best!
