It seems like each new month just creeps up on me before I can even fully comprehend the prior month! And I know it only gets worse as the months go on…sad face.
I must admit, this month was kind of a mile marker for us though. Back in the depths of newborndom, it’s difficult to actually envision the future and how life will be different than what you are currently experiencing. You laugh at people when they tell you it gets better or that you’ll ever be able to sleep again. Most of the time, we were told that around 3 months is when things start to “click” and I can definitely see it happening. Trent sleeps better most nights, he can entertain himself for short time periods, we’re kinda getting used to this whole parenting thing and he plays and talks and smiles to us and just about everyone else.
Age: 3 months
Weight: 14 pounds at last doctor visit 2 weeks ago
Height: 23.5 inches at last doctor visit
Favorite activity: Talking and singing with us and being held while we stand or walk around.
Honorable mentions: Playing in his Jumperoo, looking at black & white books together and sucking on his hand/thumb.
Least favorite activity: Sitting in his car seat. I’ve been meaning to look up if other people have the same issue with our same car seat, but he just gets so hot and sweaty in there, no wonder he is so miserable. We turn the cold air up high for him, but no matter what, when we pick him up there are sweat marks on the seat and his clothes and hair are sweaty. We are thinking of taking out the infant insert now that he has more head control to see if that makes a difference.
Milestones: We have a thumb sucker! Also: found his feet and rolled over once. It was definitely by accident, but I’m counting it anyway! I almost forgot that he rolled over just a few minutes after birth when the nurse was washing him…so I’m counting that instead!
Words: Not yet, lots of “talking” though, with squeals and long sounds. I think he’s going to be a talkative little guy!
Sleep: We’ve had a few nights where he slept all the way through when he went to sleep pretty late, but he wakes up at about 3am and 6am each morning still and usually up for good around 8:30-9am. He starts the night in the pack n play, then sleeps in the bed with us after his first wake up.
Best Moment: When he fell asleep in the bathtub while sucking his thumb. It was just so darn cute. He must have been THAT comfortable and THAT tired to just pass out like that when he is normally so active in the tub. He even had his index finger hooked onto his nose and his other arm all curled up and resting on his tummy. Sometimes my heart almost can’t take it…just too much cuteness.
Worst Moment: Whenever he has bad dreams. It seriously breaks my heart and I’ve even gotten teary-eyed a few times. How can you not when his bad-dream face is this…curled lip and everything.
Eating: 100% breastmilk. Although his Poppa gave him some sweet tea while none of us were looking and we all yelled at him afterward. I know we’re in the South and we all love our sweet tea, but not yet Poppa!
Teeth: None…but a whole heck of alot of drool!
