Happy 1 Month to Trent

Trent was born 1 month ago (view the birth story and video from that wonderful day).

It’s amazing how fast they grow!

He was 7 lbs. 14 oz. at birth and left the hospital at 7 lbs. 7 oz. At his doctor’s appointment yesterday, he weighed a whopping 9 lbs. 12 oz. Our big boy has gained over 2 pounds since leaving the hospital!

We may be on the verge of retiring some of his newborn onesies that are getting a little tight on him. He’s been able to fit a couple of his 0-3 or 3 month outfits that run a little small, which is exciting since we didn’t really have any newborn outfits, just onesies, because we weren’t sure if he’d even fit them when he was born.

He also officially doesn’t fit newborn diapers any longer. When I was pregnant, the ultrasound techs kept predicting he’d be a big baby, so I was nervous that all the newborn diapers we purchased would go to waste. But alas, we pretty much used them all! The other day while we were out, we pulled a diaper out of the diaper bag and were scared to find it was a newborn size. He’s been wearing size 1 for a little while now, but since all we had was the newborn size, we put it on him and it was so small! Luckily, we didn’t have any accidents, but we made sure to put some size 1 diapers in there for the future as soon as we got home.

Every day and night is different, but he pretty much eats every 2-4 hours, which is pretty normal for a breastfed baby of his age. We’ve been using a zCush Nap Mat for him to sleep in.

When he falls asleep in the evenings after his bath, we will put him in the nap mat on the couch while we watch tv (since sometimes he won’t sleep very long and sometimes he will…we never know) so that if he is still sleeping when we want to go to bed, we can easily transfer him in the nap mat over to the pack n play in the bedroom. It’s so much easier to move him when he’s in the nap mat because he doesn’t feel that he’s being moved. Perfect until we become masters of moving him without waking him.

He’ll usually wake up around midnight, then between 3-4 am at which time he doesn’t quite want to go back to sleep, so I let him stay in the bed with us and he’ll fall asleep soon after, then he’ll wake up around 7 am and then between 9-10am. So I am actually able to get a decent amount of sleep, just broken up over the course of the night. We still haven’t determined what we’ll do when I go back to work in two weeks, since I will need to make sure I get enough sleep. We shall see, but I’m sure Trent will determine that for us!

Ok, now for the fun stuff!

We definitely have smiles going on over here!

He likes when I flutter his lips with my finger and just the other day, I discovered that he’ll laugh at his carrot toy from IKEA!

He’s ticklish and we enjoy going for walks around the neighborhood if the weather is nice, but he’ll settle for swaying around the living room or walking around the house together too.

We’re looking forward to what the next month brings us!
