Well, our trip report has come to an end, but I have 1 video left to share (two if you count the Contemporary Resort Review video that I am working on but won’t post for another few weeks). I wanted to post these last 2 videos separate from the trip report because I felt like the video I posted in the last trip report got swallowed up amongst all the photos and not many people even noticed it was there.

My hope for our next trip is to take a lot more video so that I can make a video for each day of our trip. These past 2 trips, I feel like I am cutting out so much stuff in order to make the video not be so long (in minutes) but didn’t have enough to make a video for each day. I also stuck with just video this time and did not add any photos…sheesh, if I would have added photos, this video would have been 20 minutes long!

Unfortunately, after I had these videos all finished, I realized that when I uploaded all the clips to iMovie, I selected the wrong category and therefore it can’t be viewed in 1080p - but please be sure to select 720p HD for the best quality. Oh well, I learn for next time.

Here is the video recap of our entire trip!

Sunday

Today was our last day, boo :( It was also Brett’s birthday…yay!

We had an early morning (but not too early) breakfast ADR at Chef Mickey’s. How convenient it was to wake up, stroll over to the main building and walk right into the restaurant!

June Disney Trip Day 6-1

Trent got to celebrate his birthday again with a cupcake. He didn’t really eat much of it, just played with the chocolate piece and icing on top.

June Disney Trip Day 6-12 June Disney Trip Day 6-13 June Disney Trip Day 6-17 June Disney Trip Day 6-18 June Disney Trip Day 6-19

He also got to meet all of his favorite characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

June Disney Trip Day 6-3 June Disney Trip Day 6-4 June Disney Trip Day 6-5 June Disney Trip Day 6-6 June Disney Trip Day 6-7 June Disney Trip Day 6-8 June Disney Trip Day 6-9 June Disney Trip Day 6-10 June Disney Trip Day 6-11 June Disney Trip Day 6-20 June Disney Trip Day 6-21

I probably love breakfast more than the average person, but Chef Mickey’s is just ok for me. I prefer Crystal Palace when it comes to a character buffet breakfast, but we went more for the characters than anything…and the atmosphere is fun, too.

June Disney Trip Day 6-14 June Disney Trip Day 6-15 June Disney Trip Day 6-16

After breakfast, we strolled back to the room to gather all of our stuff. Once we were ready, we called the front desk to have a porter come bring our stuff to the car. I have officially been spoiled and will probably do that every time from now on.

We decided not to go to a park today and instead went to Downtown Disney. I thought it would be fun to do Characters in Flight for his birthday/Father’s Day, so we headed straight for that. We only had to wait a couple of minutes for the current ride to finish.

June Disney Trip Day 6-29 June Disney Trip Day 6-28

If you are afraid of heights, than this is not the experience for you! We could see for miles and miles!

June Disney Trip Day 6-25 June Disney Trip Day 6-26

It was the Car Masters Weekend, so it was pretty cool to see all the cars lined up from way up there.

June Disney Trip Day 6-23 June Disney Trip Day 6-22

June Disney Trip Day 6-24

Trent wasn’t all that thrilled to be up there - he was just kinda like “Meh”. I guess he didn’t understand and just saw that we were in a big cage. Since there were quite a few other people up there with us, we couldn’t really roam around too much without saying “excuse me, excuse me” but I definitely recommend trying it out if you’ve ever seen it up in the air from far away and wondered what it would be like to ride!

June Disney Trip Day 6-27

Here is a short video of our flight. :)

After our flight, we walked around looking at all the cars. There was such a wide range of cars, from antique to brand new, cartoon designs to movie replicas.

June Disney Trip Day 6-30 June Disney Trip Day 6-31

It was excruciatingly hot outside, like we were being slowly baked on that hot concrete, so once we walked by all the cars, we decided to go find lunch somewhere and then head home.

June Disney Trip Day 6-32

Overall, I am really glad I was given the opportunity to take a WDW trip…even if it was for a work conference. I was disappointed in having to buy full annual passes (as opposed to our usual Seasonal Passes) but it kind of made up for it by not having to pay for 4 nights at the Contemporary Resort. It was so so nice staying at a monorail resort. The convenience factor is so worth the extra money, if you’re willing/able to spend it, and I’m sure having a theme park view would just be phenomenal. {Stay tuned for a review of the Contemporary Resort in the near future} For now, we’ll stick to AOA or POP for most of our trips, as Trent likes those pools more anyway!

Thank you for following along with our trip report. We sure hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoy sharing our trips.

June 2013 Walt Disney World Trip Report – Day 5

If you’re just joining us, be sure to start from Day 1 by clicking here! If you want to stay updated on all our WDW trips, like us on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube (we make Disney videos of our trips!)

Saturday

This post should actually be called “A bunch of photos where Trent’s isn’t wearing any shoes” - as I looked through the photos to make this post, I realized he isn’t wearing shoes in a single photo…or pretty much any of the photos from the entire trip. I guess when you’re not walking as much, there isn’t really a need for it…but that will definitely change for our October trip because he is a running fool now!

Today was the last day of the conference (high five!) and we were scheduled to be finished at noon, so no lunch today and breakfast was a collection of all the things offered on the prior days…blueberry bread, chocolate croissants and jelly filled pastries.

Trent napped so hard he made an ear imprint on his arm. Disney sure does know how to tire a baby out.

Disney June Day 5-1

We really had no idea what we wanted to do since we had plenty of time to explore for the night. We needed lunch, so we headed down to the Contempo Cafe area. It was quite busy, so we just kind of stood there debating if we should just eat there, go to Epcot and find something, or look up any ADRs. We were standing there a good few minutes when a man that had been sitting on the nearby bench came up to us and asked us if we were on the Disney Dining Plan. We quickly said no, although we were both confused at why he was asking.

He said “Let me get your lunch.”

Say what?!

We both said “Excuse me?”

And he repeated it “Let me get your lunch for you….we are about to leave to go home (he then pointed at his kids) and we have a bunch of Dining Plan credits left that we won’t be able to use, so let me pay it forward and buy your lunch for you.”

We couldn’t believe it. I wonder if he sat there specifically waiting to spot a family that would benefit from his good deed or it was a spur of the moment decision, but I don’t care either way. What a nice man and such a nice gesture. To that wonderful gentleman, if you are reading this, thank you so much, you made our day. Free food at Disney? Heck, you made my year. I thought I was nice for handing unused Fastpasses to people as I leave parks, but you went to an entirely new level and I hope to pay it forward to others in the future, too.

So he told us to order 2 meals, 2 desserts, and a kids meal…so we made our selections on the touchscreen, got our food and picked out our drinks and desserts and met him at the cashier. We tried to make small talk but he didn’t really say much. His kids talked to us more than he did lol.

Either way, we got all this food for free…a little more than we would have gotten on our own, but we still consumed it in it’s entirety.

Disney June Day 5-3

Dessert was an oatmeal cookie for Brett and a worms n dirt cupcake for me and Trent.

Disney June Day 5-2

With all that being said, we met some of the nicest people on this trip. I truly was amazed. We never even had an issue with someone standing in front of us at a parade - which is something that happens almost every time. Even when we were on the 4th floor viewing deck at the Contemporary and an older kid showed up last minute and proceeded to run in front of everyone, a guy that was sitting near us politely told the kid to watch out for Brett’s expensive camera and that if he wanted to be up front, if he could please sit down so everyone that was here first could see. The kid ran away, but it got the job done lol.

So, with our tummies extra full, we headed to Epcot.

Disney June Day 5-4 Disney June Day 5-5

It had just started to rain, so we took shelter inside and had fun near the firetruck.

Disney June Day 5-7

Disney June Day 5-8

“Hey Ma, I found something that I’m taller than! But I’m still going to go on my tippy-toes anyway!”

Disney June Day 5-9

Now, I will let Trent demonstrate the proper form for “Stop, drop and roll.”

Disney June Day 5-10

Cover your face? When did they add that step in? Ugh too much to remember! haha

Decent family photo coming up next!

Disney June Day 5-11

Pretend sleeps.

Disney June Day 5-12

It was still raining, so we took a spin on Spaceship Earth.

Disney June Day 5-13

The rain had stopped while we were on the ride, so we ventured back out.

Disney June Day 5-14

Duffy had no line, so we jumped in to meet him. I always think that when a character has no line, that they must be gearing up to leave…that happens so often, we go to get in line and the cast member tells us the character is getting ready to leave and no more people can enter the line. Not this time, though, so I quickly pulled Trent out of his stroller so we would be next.

Disney June Day 5-20

Wow, is that one half-ass smile or what? The funny thing about this trip compared to Trent’s first WDW trip in April was his reaction to characters. During the first trip, he couldn’t get enough of them…touching their noses, feeling their fur, hugging them….it was so darn cute. But for this trip, he had started to become quite the shy baby…he would shake his head no at characters (including Mickey…gasp!) and would turn away from them. It wasn’t too bad, as he didn’t scream or cry and would still interact with them somewhat, but it was definitely much different. I’m interested to see his reactions when we go this month…

Disney June Day 5-24

It started to rain again, so we took shelter in the Morocco Pavilion. The shops back there already feel cramped enough, even more so with a stroller and a bunch of other people escaping the rain. We stopped by the Kidcot station to have Trent’s name written in Arabic, but he only cared about biting the cardboard.

He is looking at her like “I have no idea what you are saying, Lady, but I’m gonna hold on to my momma real tight, so don’t try any funny business!”

Disney June Day 5-35

I tried to get him to hold the umbrella, but he put up such a fight…he did not want to touch it!

He did, however, let me put beer goggles on him. Priorities.

Disney June Day 5-39 Disney June Day 5-40 Disney June Day 5-41

We stopped to enjoy some Off Kilter. Trent must have liked it, or was really tired, because he just sat there staring at them for the 10 minutes we were there.

Disney June Day 5-42 Disney June Day 5-43

I’ll take a dreary day at WDW than a sunny day at work.

Disney June Day 5-45

Oh, no! It’s flooding in WDW!

IMG_1985 Disney June Day 5-47

We jumped back on the monorail and went back to our room for a little while to let the rain die down.

Disney June Day 5-48 Disney June Day 5-49

After a little while, we got back on the resort monorail to head to Magic Kingdom for the night, but literally a second before the doors opened at the Polynesian, we decided to jump off and grab some Dole Whips at Captain Cooks.

Since they let you fill up your own cup as much as you want, we reignited our “who-can-build-the-biggest-and-best-ice-cream” feud, one that occurs on every cruise….this first one is Brett’s.

Disney June Day 5-50

Here is mine.

Disney June Day 5-51

Oh yes, I totally won that one. Brett was disappointed afterward and claims he didn’t know he could put so much in the cup. Pfft…whatever. I would have made mine taller if I hadn’t started going crooked. I think we need to keep practicing every time we go to WDW.

The real winner? Trent, who got to eat from both of our Dole Whips.

Disney June Day 5-52

Dole Whips + weird elevator music = this.

Disney June Day 5-53

Once we arrived at MK, we headed to Pirates of the Caribbean, where dead man tell no tales…

Disney June Day 5-54

We forgot to get a ride height photo at MK during Trent’s first trip, so we made sure to get one this time. He tried to stand up on his tippy-toes, but still not tall enough.

Disney June Day 5-55

We had said we wouldn’t stop to watch Wishes! this night, after seeing it the past few nights, but part of me just has the hardest time not watching fireworks when I am there. I love Wishes! so much, so I started quickly walking towards Fantasyland behind the castle, just to catch a glimpse.

Wow…I did not catch a glimpse. What I stumbled upon was perhaps my new favorite Wishes! viewing location.

Disney June Day 5-56

Yes, even better than the Tomorrowland Terrace during the Dessert Party. Although, if I had some dessert with me at this point, that would have just put us on cloud nine.

We stood next to the Carousel and felt so close to the action…because we were! The spray fireworks go off from rooftops directly behind the castle and then the main fireworks are behind the park. It was so loud, but so energetic. I loved being so close to everything and how it wasn’t just a bunch of rows of people staring in one direction. You could turn 360 degrees and have something to look at the entire time. It was just random groupings of people looking around, some standing, some sitting and some even laying flat and looking up. I stuck Trent on my shoulders and kept going back and forth on what to look at. We must have said “Ooohhh” a hundred times.

Disney June Day 5-57

Disney June Day 5-58

By the end of the show, Trent wanted me to put him down, but I knew the finale was coming up and thought we could get some good photos of us with it in the background (even though I was torn between actually watching the finale and having it be in the photo behind me…ugh, the sacrifices we make for a good photo…), so he was pushing and try to get down and it was a struggle to hold on to him…so this is what we got.

Disney June Day 5-59 Disney June Day 5-60

Well, at least they’re funny, right?

Now, it was time to go on some rides! The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Disney June Day 5-61 Disney June Day 5-62

Oh yes, we totally bought him this hat. But now I can’t find it and it makes me sad because he actually liked wearing it.

Disney June Day 5-63

Brett was wanting to get some photos of the Sword in the Stone, so Trent and I went on the Carousel…which was almost empty and the Cast Member even held the gate for me since she heard me tell Brett I was going to go on it.

Disney June Day 5-64 Disney June Day 5-65 Disney June Day 5-66

We wanted to finally catch the Main Street Electrical Parade, so we headed towards the Hub. They hadn’t roped everything off yet, but I saw the tape on the ground where I knew they would be putting up a rope…and there was no one there yet. Why, I don’t mind if I do. I quickly pushed the stroller over to it, put the brakes on and then sat down on the ground before Brett could even ask where I was going. It was a FANTASTIC spot.

Disney June Day 5-67

Can you believe in both of these trips, the most Trent has seen of this parade is far away from the Dessert Party and then about 30 seconds as we were leaving one night…both during the first trip. And after tonight, we were angry at ourselves that he hadn’t seen it sooner…the kid frickin loved it! He was clapping, screaming (the good kind), waving, smiling…he had a blast. Make sure you check out the video of our trip when I post it next week to see his reaction.

Disney June Day 5-68 Disney June Day 5-69 Disney June Day 5-70 Disney June Day 5-71 Disney June Day 5-72

After the parade, we headed back to the Contemporary. Before going to the room, we walked around for some random fun photos.

Disney June Day 5-75

Where’s Trent?

Disney June Day 5-76

An empty front desk.

Disney June Day 5-73

Tonight was my absolute favorite night. From the free lunch to the perfect spots for both the fireworks and parade without even having to wait, everything was…well, magical.

Friday
Breakfast was similar to a powdered jelly donut. I had given up hope on bacon.

Workin’ on the blog while I wait for the first session to begin. :)

IMG_1952

Today’s lunch menu (sorry for the blurry phone photos again):

IMG_1951

Yesterday’s salad was much better, but I was still happy for the appearance of pretzel bread in the bread basket again today.

IMG_1947

Chicken, sweet potatoes and veggies.

IMG_1948

Dessert = caramelized banana cake with chocolate and rum sauce.

IMG_1950

After the conference, we drove to the Beach Club. We had reservations later on at Cape May Cafe, so the plan was to walk to Epcot and then walk back for dinner. We didn’t take the monorail because we didn’t want to walk through the entire park twice knowing we’d only be there for such a short amount of time.

We think the parking lot is quite far at the Beach Club, especially after a big meal of seafood and desserts, so we decided to take advantage of valet parking. Just now, while I’m writing this, I realized that we paid for valet parking when we could have gotten it for free because we have Tables in Wonderland. Damn - that makes me realize how many times we could have done it in the past and didn’t. Fail.

We walked to Epcot from the Beach Club through the International Gateway entrance and stopped in the France pavilion for some sightseeing.

Disney June Day 4-1 Disney June Day 4-2 Disney June Day 4-3

We tried to take a nice photo by the fountain, but all Trent wanted to do was play with the water. He made sure to let us know he wanted nothing to do with photo-taking and his displeasure with us keeping him away from the water.

You can see him trying so hard to play with the water…reaching his foot as far as he can just to touch it with his toe.

Disney June Day 4-4 Disney June Day 4-5 Disney June Day 4-6 Disney June Day 4-7

I took his foot out of the water and stood him up…that made him REALLY angry! HULK transformation in 3…2…1…

We then headed to the Norway Pavilion to ride Maelstrom!

Disney June Day 4-17

Trent did just fine. Darkness? Scary trolls? Drops in a boat? Bring it! This baby does it all.

Disney June Day 4-18

Trent representing his heritage and getting his Swedish Viking on.

Disney June Day 4-19

We continued walking and got a craving for a nice sugary margarita from the stand in Mexico. I hadn’t eaten in hours, so this drink started affecting me rather quickly. Drinking buddy, I am not.

Of course, it did make me want to eat lots of seafood! We walked back to the Beach Club and were seated at Cape May Cafe within just a few minutes. We didn’t take any food photos this time…too hungry to remember?? I don’t know, but you can check out some photos from the last time we were at Cape May Cafe HERE.

We enjoyed our delicious meal. Trent ate more this time than the last time we were here…he liked the fish nuggets and fruit. And the mini-cupcakes.

Disney June Day 4-20 Disney June Day 4-21

We then drove back to the hotel. For one of the perhaps least Disney-esque, decorated hotels, the Contemporary sure provides plenty of beautiful photos…especially with the monorail zipping by.

Disney June Day 4-22

We stopped by the room and then ran to the 4th floor fireworks viewing deck. There were already some people sitting there, but luckily there were still seats left in the 3rd row. Brett set up his camera and several of the people around us were chatting and playing with Trent. It was a very nice group of people and a relaxing, enjoyable way to wait for the show to begin.

Disney June Day 4-23 Disney June Day 4-24

This was definitely a convenient fireworks viewing spot, but be sure to still show up a little early if you want a seat! It’s not the best spot for fireworks photography, though, as the big set of fireworks are all the way off to the side behind Space Mountain.

After the fireworks, we took a look at the arcade…

Disney June Day 4-25

…and then we went swimming. Trent is a fish and loves the water and I was glad to finally be swimming, since it was way too hot with blazing sun during the day. Oh yeah, and that silly conference I keep having to attend ;)

After swimming we called it a night.

Thursday
Yet another day of leaving a room with 2 sleeping babies while I got to go enjoy some accounting conference fun.

Although it sure was nice waking up to this…have fun Magic Kingdom-goers!

Disney June Day 3-1

Breakfast was chocolate croissants. They were much better than yesterday’s offering, but I was still waiting for my dang bacon.

IMG_1918

Brett and Trent headed to the Contempo Cafe and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. My job pays for this and them two make out like kings while I get a chocolate croissant. Something is wrong here…

Trent got his own plate of Mickey Waffles and fruit. Yum!

“I’m watching you…”

Disney June Day 3-7 Disney June Day 3-8

They strolled around before heading back to the room to hang out.

Disney June Day 3-9
We had a speaker at lunch, so the meal was much better today. (Sorry for the blurry food photos, all photos taken by me during the conference were from my iPhone 4S)

IMG_1923

I had a tasty salad with balls of mozzarella cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette.

IMG_1919

Get this…the bread basket had pretzel bread! We got two in our basket of various breads and I ate them both - so sorry to any fellow table members that wanted pretzel bread…MINE!

IMG_1920

The main dish was steak, mashed potatoes and vegetables.

IMG_1921

To finish it up, pistachio mascarpone cheesecake.

IMG_1924

During the afternoon, Brett and Trent stayed in the room. I would have wondered why they didn’t go to MK since it’s so convenient and Brett wouldn’t have had to fold up a stroller while carrying a baby, but it was so hot out that he didn’t want to go out and have them both get miserable just in time for me to be done with the conference and ready to have some fun.

So Trent passed the time by making our clothes smell like feet.

Disney June Day 3-10 Disney June Day 3-11
After the conference, we took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. It was still blazing hot out, so I retreated into the shops while Brett took photos of the flag retreat (see what I did there?).

Disney June Day 3-12 Disney June Day 3-13 Disney June Day 3-14 Disney June Day 3-15 Disney June Day 3-16
The rice krispie treats were calling my name, so I bought a bag of them, split 2 with Trent and then put them in the stroller where they nearly melted. However, they provided a delicious bedtime snack the rest of the nights. Next time, we should get this instead.

IMG_1926

We then headed towards New Fantasyland. Look at that line for Peter Pan….sheesh.

Disney June Day 3-17 Disney June Day 3-18 Disney June Day 3-19 Disney June Day 3-20

We got Little Mermaid Fastpasses, then admired the beautiful area by Be Our Guest.

Disney June Day 3-21 Disney June Day 3-22

We then ate at Cosmic Rays. We both got chicken sandwiches and Trent got an Uncrustables kids meal.

IMG_1927

I had to eat Trent’s Uncrustable because he only wanted french fries and grapes and I already took the darn sandwich out of the plastic. Sure, I could have thrown it away, but I usually don’t throw peanut butter away. Or chocolate. Or cookies.

But I couldn’t get mad at him. I mean, how could you get mad at this face?

Disney June Day 3-23

Ok, not the best example of a cutesy face, but you get the idea.

After dinner, it was our Fastpass return time for Little Mermaid.

Disney June Day 3-24 Disney June Day 3-25 Disney June Day 3-26 Disney June Day 3-27 Disney June Day 3-30 Disney June Day 3-31 Disney June Day 3-32

Are you guys ready for a little photography lesson? Trust me, it’s a simple thing to do. You ready for it?

TURN OFF YOUR CAMERA’S FLASH ON DARK RIDES!

Below is a photo Brett took of Ursula on The Voyage of the Little Mermaid. His photo captured someone else’s flash going off for their photo, so this is how their photo turned out as well.

Disney June Day 3-28

I can barely even see her facial expression or the image in the crystal ball. What I can see are the outlets and speakers that Disney Imagineers try so hard to meticulously hide with special lighting.

Now here is Brett’s photo he took a second later with no flash.

Disney June Day 3-29

Isn’t that so much better?! If you leave your flash off, you can see everything you are supposed to and nothing that is supposed to be hidden for your enjoyment. I bet that person that used their flash hit delete on that photo after they saw it. I’m sure glad your flash ruined the magic for others on the ride with you in order for you to have a photo worthy of the trash.

So please, whether you read it on a sign or not or whether a cast member does or doesn’t tell you, just say no to flash on dark rides. Learn how your camera works and have a steady hand and your photos will be so much better!

Ok, onward.

Disney June Day 3-50 Disney June Day 3-51

First, we stopped in Big Top Souvenirs to look at the offerings. We didn’t buy anything, just admired.

Then, Trent went bananas over the splash area. He couldn’t walk very far on his own yet at this point, so I had the joy of walking along with him to get wet.

To dry off, we took a spin on Dumbo.

We then watched Philharmagic. We knew Trent wouldn’t really care to use the sunglasses, but we got him a pair anyway and he would sporadically put them on and watch. It was mostly for us anyway; I love that show. I also loved watching Trent look around at all the kids reaching towards the screen and trying to grab stuff wondering what the heck they were doing.

We decided that since we would be at MK several nights in a row, that we would try to watch Wishes from new spots, so we went to the bridge in Frontierland this night. While it was nice to be able to walk up just a few minutes before the fireworks started and have somewhere to lean on and not be crowded, the view was just so-so. We couldn’t see much of the bigger fireworks behind the trees, so if you are trying to photograph from this spot, be prepared to only have half the fireworks in your photos. I definitely recommend it if you are just interested in paying attention to the show in between running to and from rides. Just step off to the side (there were plenty of spots when we were there) watch the show and then make a quick getaway with no crowd.

Trent immediately fell asleep after the fireworks, so we decided to just slowly head out of the park, taking some photos along the way.

The monorail lines were CRAZY LONG, so we walked back to the hotel again. We also weren’t jealous of the bus lines. We’ve never taken a Disney bus and this does nothing to convince us.
