Easy Meal Idea: Salad and Sandwich Using Hormel Natural Choice Sandwich Meat

Ok, this isn’t a typical recipe post. I think we all know how to make a salad and a sandwich. But did you know that Hormel offers some delicious varieties of pre-packaged sandwich meat? We didn’t either, and when we received a few packages this month as part of the Hormel Family Blogger program, we were interested in trying them out.

Hormel Natural Choice Turkey-1

Did you know that the Hormel® Natural Choice® line is the first nationally distributed line of all natural sandwich meats with zero preservatives and no artificial colors or flavors?

This is because all of our meats are preserved using High Pressure Processing (HPP), a cutting-edge, USDA-approved, all-natural process that doesn’t require preservatives. Instead, intense cold water pressure protects food against bacteria, while maintaining freshness and enhancing flavor.

Our Deli Sandwich Meats are also low in fat and trans fat free, with no added nitrites or nitrates and no MSG. These meats are also gluten free.

And since they’re all natural, they taste just like your holiday ham or Thanksgiving turkey.

Hormel Natural Choice Turkey-2

We enjoyed a salad and sandwich for dinner the other night. We needed a quick and easy weeknight meal that was still pretty healthy. After all, we’ve been trying to eat better and be more active (not only for overall health, but also because we have a cruise coming up!). We grabbed our Hormel Natural Choice Turkey and all the other fixins and were sitting down to eat within just a few minutes.

Hormel Natural Choice Turkey-3

We like to keep it pretty simple - The salad was made of green leaf lettuce, tomato, cucumber, craisins, feta cheese and croutons. We used just meat, cheese, mayo, mustard, green leaf lettuce, cucumber and tomato on the sandwich (I would like onion too, but Brett hates them enough that you will hardly ever find an onion in our house).

Hormel Natural Choice Turkey-4

Hormel Natural Choice lunch meat comes in 12 varieties! We really enjoyed the turkey varieties, especially the Cracked Black Pepper and Honey flavors, and Trent even tried ham for the first time and enjoyed it.

Another great thing about Hormel lunch meat is that it is readily available in the refrigerated section of your local grocery store….so no standing in the deli line!

Green Giant Veggie Snack Chips Review

One of my favorite snacks is chips…sometimes you just need something crunchy, ya know? I especially enjoy chips as a side item with my sandwiches, too. Well, when I’m trying to make better decisions about what I eat, chips aren’t usually at the top of the list. Green Giant is trying to change that with their Veggie chips.

Green Giant Veggie Chips Key Visual 2

This is my second time trying Green Giant Veggie Snack Chips. The first time, I tried the Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips in Sea Salt and the Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips in Zesty Cheddar. This time around, we tried the Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips in Garden Ranch and the Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips in Barbecue.

Green Giant Chips-1

Green Giant Chips-2

Barbecue is usually my first choice when it comes to chips, but I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by the Ranch flavor as well. They have a good crunch and just enough flavoring all over the chip.

Green Giant Chips-3

The barbecue isn’t a strong barbecue flavor, but you can definitely taste it. I really like the underlying flavor of the Sweet Potato chips. I love sweet potato and usually opt for sweet potato fries over regular french fries at restaurants :)

Green Giant Chips-4

While Green Giant Veggie Snack Chips aren’t meant to be a replacement for veggies, I can feel a little better handing one over to Trent when he starts reaching out for them while I’m snacking. You try saying no to a toddler when he wants a chip…

How to Use a Keurig Without a K-Cup - Coffee Bean Direct Review & Giveaway!

I wouldn’t say I’m a coffee addict…I only have 1 or 2 cups a day. And while I can’t resist the urge of at least one Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks in the Fall, I prefer to make my coffee at home…I can make it the way I want, save money and save time (have you seen the drive-thru lines at 7:30 in the morning?? No thank you - I’m barely on time as it is!).

The funny thing is, I never drank coffee before adding a coffee maker to my wedding registry almost 7 years ago. Not one cup. Then someone actually bought the coffee maker for us and I’ve been drinking it ever since. But since Brett doesn’t drink coffee and I only drink one cup, I lept over to a Keurig a few years ago. It’s so convenient to just pop in a K-cup and brew exactly the amount I need in just a few minutes.

But with the added convenience, there is an added cost. The cost of K-cups sure can add up when you compare it to what you would probably spend on a container of ground coffee. But I don’t let having a Keurig hold me back from trying new flavors of coffee, whether they be in a K-cup or a bag. Many people I talk to about it didn’t even know you could use ground coffee in a Keurig machine…it’s easy!

The one thing you need is a K-Cup reusable filter. Mine came with my Keurig, but you can find them here.

Coffee Bean Direct-2

I received a 1 pound bag of City Roast Colombian Supremo from Coffee Bean Direct. Time to use my reusable filter! Look at this huge bag of coffee!

Coffee Bean Direct-1

First, you pop out the existing filter from the machine.

Coffee Bean Direct-3

Scoop your coffee into the filter basket.

Coffee Bean Direct-4

Put the filter basket into the filter holder and then screw the lid onto the holder.

Coffee Bean Direct-5

Put the holder into the Keurig where the normal filter was.

Coffee Bean Direct-6

Close the Keurig and brew as usual.

Coffee Bean Direct-7

Once you’re done, open the Keurig, remove the insert, remove the filter basket and dump out the used coffee. Clean out the filter so it is ready for the next use.

Now back to the coffee…the City Roast Colombian Supremo was delicious. The best part about Coffee Bean Direct? The coffee ships right to your doorstep! And don’t worry about waiting forever to get your coffee fix…orders ship within 24 hours!

Coffee Bean Direct

Coffee Bean Direct offers many flavors of regular coffee, unroasted coffee, and tea…as well as gift items. They offer many size varieties, too. The 1 pound bag I received is resealable, perfect for maintaining the freshness.

Coffee Bean Direct-1

They also have some mouthwatering flavors you won’t find at your local grocery store. Maple Bacon Smoked Coffee anyone? Yum!

Coffee Bean Direct-2

Under each flavor variety, they provide a pretty detailed description of the coffee or tea, as well as it’s Roast, Acidity and Body levels.

With the tuna pouches, there’s no mess and you get just the right amount of extra flavor. These are a great alternative to a plain tuna sandwich. You could also pair these with fruit, chips or other side-item you would normally enjoy alongside a sandwich or wrap.

New Hormel Rev Wraps Lunch Ideas

First things first, I want to happily announce that I was chosen to be a Hormel Extended Family Blogger!

What does being a Hormel Extended Family Blogger mean? For the next 6 months, I am basically their brand ambassador. A food ambassador. A taste-it-and-share-the-love-and-deliciousness blogger. I’ll be trying out some tasty Hormel foods and sharing at least one post a month with you all. I’m excited. Let’s do this.

This month, I received a large box of Hormel goodies in mail. Although actually, since Brett is home all day with Trent, HE received a big box in the mail. Yes, he gets the joy of receiving packages at home and opening them in a Christmas-morning fury. Sure, he looks at whose name is on the mailing label, and most times he gives me a quick shout out to see if I know anything about it. Forget raising Trent, I think his main goal with this stay-at-home dad thing was that he could open the mail before I get home. But I digress.

What I was most excited to try was their new line of REV wraps.

  • Italian Style Ham
  • Hot Pepper Ham
  • Italian Style
  • Spicy Italian Style

I received all 8 varieties and tried to come up with different ways of enjoying them during lunch at work. Coming up with ideas for lunches to eat at work 5 days a week can be exhausting. Sometimes I take the lazy way out and just make 1 thing that will last all week, like a pasta or salad. But eventually, I forget to make something and peanut butter and jelly it is. Like I’m in elementary school. Although as much as I love peanut butter, I guess it’s not really a bad thing, but I need more to feel full longer and not be tempted by the vending machines at work…which take credit cards now, by the way. Not having cash used to be my excuse. :-(

Here are the different lunches I came up with. Since they just come with the meat and cheese on them, I liked finding a side item that I could combine with the wrap. I also brought condiments too, like mayo or mustard. You could also cut up some pieces of tomato, lettuce, pickle…anything you typically enjoy on your wraps/sandwiches. I also enjoyed them after warming them up in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.

It was extremely simple just grabbing the REV wrap, 1 or 2 side items and then heading out the door for work. I was on time every single day…high fives all around.

Here’s the display I noticed at my local grocery store…
