Making more videos was definitely one of my goals for this year and from now on. We hardly ever used our old video camera, so before Trent was born, we bought a new video camera and vowed we would record more of our lives…the little things and the big events. It all happens so fast and we want to remember as much as we can. Of course, we can record all we want, but everything will just sit on a memory card if we don’t turn photos and video recordings into something that can be shared!
I can tell with each video that I make, it gets a little easier and more fun and I want to explore more. Since I’m no professional at this (yet!), I’m always interested in finding new features or programs to make things easier and offer different looks depending on the type of show I want to create. Also, since Brett takes tons of photos of everything, I like having the option of creating a video that also includes photos, so that we can enjoy those too.
When we decided to make a video of Trent’s first Christmas, we used the Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder Deluxe to see how it worked. After all, they state that the product is great for moms to create holiday movies at home for their babies and kids!
From Wondershare:

- Drag-n-drop unlimited photos, videos and music to create your show
- Customize your DVD slideshow with 480+ movie styles & 130+ 2D/3D transitions
- Look like a pro with built-in film effects
- Share high-quality videos on YouTube, Facebook & virtually anywhere
Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder Deluxe can be used with Windows 8/7/Vista/Xp (there is also a version for Mac – Fantashow for Mac).
There are two versions included in the Deluxe software, Standard and Advanced. The Standard version allows you to create a slideshow of photos only, but includes more transition effects. Wondershare also offers additional 3D effects as an added program that costs $9.95. The Advanced version allows you to create a slideshow with photos AND videos together, but doesn’t have as many photo transition effects. So which version you use depends on what you want to include, though I wish there weren’t 2 separate versions and that all the effects could be used together with photo and video.
Making a slideshow using Wondershare was quite simple. There is a guide available on their website to show you how to use the program…

…as well as numerous YouTube video demonstrations. Here is the one I used.
Wondershare Tutorial on YouTube
First, you just grab your photos (and video if you have any) from your computer and upload them into the program. You can rearrange the order of everything once it’s in the program, so don’t worry about how the photos are arranged in your folder.
Then, you customize the slideshow by inserting themed intro slides, transition effects, music and captions. You can change the timing of everything too, such as making photos appear for more or less time and shortening videos. So if you have a 5 minute long video, but only want to include a 1 minute segment that’s halfway through the video, you can clip it to just play that segment. I like this aspect since I will often record Trent for 5 minutes just waiting for him to do something and he does it at the very end and the beginning of the video is of him just staring at me.
Once you are finished and happy with your slideshow, the third and final step is to save or share it! You can save it to your computer as a number of different formats, make a DVD, upload it to YouTube or share it by email, Facebook, or Twitter.
I decided to make a slideshow with both photos and video using the Advanced version. It took me an hour to make my slideshow…and 45 minutes of that was me trying to find a free song to download to play in the background. I didn’t think finding a free version of “Jingle Bells” would be that difficult, but I guess everyone wants a buck. In addition to being free, I had to make sure it was “royalty-free” as well, or some internet god (aka the recording companies) would strike down their fury on me (aka remove my hard earned work from being online).
The Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder Deluxe is currently on sale to download for $59.95 on their website or on Amazon.com.
