Misfit Shine Elegant Wearable Tracker – Available at Best Buy {Review}

After a Disney vacation, a round of sickness in our house, a few gatherings/parties, and just plain ol’ being busy, my fitness/weight-loss efforts have taken a small hiatus. I haven’t been too bad and I’ve maintained my current weight, but I definitely need to kick it back into gear…after all, the 30th birthday-stravaganza cruise is in 2 months!

One thing that motivates me to get moving is getting to use a fancy new fitness gadget, and this time was no exception, as I had the opportunity to try the new Shine Elegant Wearable Tracker from Misfit and Best Buy!

Shine is an elegant activity monitor that you can wear anywhere.  Shine was designed to inspire people to become more active, and encourage people to set goals for how much they want to move in a day and complete them. Wear it with different accessories available (clasp, sport band, leather band, necklace) for different wearing locations and to different occasions (formal, business, casual, sleeping, swimming).

Shine is a gorgeous device that will empower people to be more proactive about their personal health.  Shine is water-resistant for swimming.

Shine is exclusively available in additional colors at Best Buy including Silver, Black, Champagne and Topaz.

The way the Shine works is you set your goals in the Shine App on your phone, sync them, then wear the Shine all day, every day. Whenever you want to see your progress throughout the day, just tap the shine twice and the Shine will light up…there are lights all around the edge and it will light up to correspond with your percentage of completion of your activity goal.

There are several options for wearing the Shine. My preferred method was the wristband.

Shine-3

The Shine simply inserts into the center of the rubber wristband and can be worn all the time.

Shine-4

The wristband is adjustable and very comfortable…just like having a watch on. Speaking of which, the Shine does have a clock feature, so I was able to replace my watch with it instead of wearing two things on my wrist.

It also looks like a watch/bracelet, so I never worried about it clashing with outfits or standing out in a bad way. You can also purchase a leather wristband if you prefer that look.

Shine-9

Another option of wearing the Shine is the magnetic clip. I would say this is the most versatile and inconspicuous option, as it allows you to put it in several places…in your pants pocket, on your waistband or on your shoe. Depending on what you’re wearing and where you put it, other people might not even notice you are wearing it if you prefer to keep it that way. I personally like the look of the Shine, so I wanted people to see it!

The last method of wearing it is on a necklace. This could perhaps be a good option for people that can’t wear anything on their wrists due to their profession.

Syncing with the app is easy, and pretty cool too. You just open the app on your phone and you’re prompted with a circle the size of the Shine on the screen. Place the Shine on the circle and you will see the syncing process begin.

When you first turn on the app, you can set your activity goals that you want the Shine to track.

From there, you can see your daily progress and make any changes.

Pros:
Can get an idea of daily progress at any time without having to sync to app
Clock feature
Can be worn all the time – no need to remember to put it on
Available in different colors
Design
Battery lasts 4 months, so need to recharge (but not being able to recharge is a con)

Cons:
Can only select 3 levels of daily activity, instead of being able to enter specifics
No inactivity alert

I think fitness trackers are a great way to be more mindful of your health. Just knowing that I don’t want to be disappointed when I look at my progress at the end of the day is motivation enough for me to get moving.
