One of our favorite projects for our Colorful Disney and Toy Story inspired Nursery were these Jumbo Hanging Barrel of Monkeys!
Or “Barrel o’ Monkeys” as I prefer to say!
Brett came up with the idea himself and did it from start to finish – I was just a spectator for this one!
First, he bought 3 sheets of thin wood. He placed one standing up in order to project an image of a monkey on it.
He then found an image of a monkey online that he could use as the outline, connected the projector to the laptop and projected the image onto the wood.
He changed the settings to make the monkey as large as the piece of wood.
He then traced the outline of the monkey onto the wood.
We were left with an outline of a monkey to cut out.
He used a jig saw to cut around the outline and then smoothed out the edges.
He used the cutout of the first monkey to trace the remaining two monkeys and followed the same process.
He the spray painted each monkey a different color, several coats front and back as needed. We used blue, red and yellow…primary colors to match the nursery.
End result of the blue monkey!
He twisted a hook into the ceiling and hung the monkeys from the hook.
Brett also just happened to have an empty barrel as a photography prop, so we placed that underneath the monkeys. Perfect!
