6/26 – Thoughts from the Week

One week ago yesterday, we welcomed our son Trent into the world. It has been both an absolutely amazing and exhausting week. Oh, and the pain…oh my, the pain.

I only had a chance to open my computer once throughout this past week and it was only for about 5 minutes. Other than that, my connection to the internet has been through my phone, one-handed while breastfeeding and usually at odd hours of the night. I’m working on Trent’s birth story, but I wanted to post something so  it doesn’t seem like I fell off the face of the Earth.

Luckily, Brett has been home with me this past week and has kept me fed and the dishes clean.

And he has photographed our first week to the fullest. Seriously, photos every day and with each one I die of cuteness overload.

{Sponge Bath Time!}

Trent even had his first mini photo session. Here are just a couple from that day.

It’s amazing how you can pose their little bodies while they’re sleeping. We made sure to use puppy pads under all the blankets just in case we had an accident. Haha

Speaking of puppy pads…we originally bought them after we got home for me to use so I wouldn’t make a mess on the couch or bed (totally TMI, but the truth) but they have been a lifesaver for protecting everything that we place Trent down on. We learned to do this after a pillow and some pillowcases had to be washed after a few diaper overloads.

The animals have taken to Trent a little differently. The dog seems to be very inquisitive of what’s going on, while the cat wants nothing to do with him and only makes an occasional appearance in whatever room Trent is in at the time.

Trent had his first doctor’s appointment last week and everything went well. He has another appointment this week for a weight check and a follow-up the week after. Babies have lots of appointments!!

I have been slow to get back to normal. Although the labor went quickly, I paid for it with quite a bit of tearing down there. Brett has since started calling me a cowboy, because  of how I’ve had to walk around the house. I was given Percocet, which was much needed for the pain, but made me so tired and exhausted, which only makes the exhaustion from taking care of a newborn even worse. I’ve had two slightly emotional moments since coming home. It’s frustrating and depressing to want to take care of your child but you can’t keep your eyes open because of the Percocet or you can’t walk because of the pain. I was so grateful to have Brett home with us, but the feeling of complete helplessness definitely got the best of me those few times.

We have also been spoiled by friends and family that we can’t thank enough. Brett’s mom played photographer for us in the delivery room, Brett’s sister brought us Chik-Fil-A for our first meal after delivery (I only had a banana that day!), and we received several lovely visits and gifts throughout our stay in the hospital. Another friend of ours that lives down the street has been spoiling us with food all week…from Chik-Fil-A breakfast to a complete meal of lasagna, cheesy bread and apple pie. Yum!

In the meantime, I will resume my daily activity of…
